These are two very different kinds of platform, and that difference is the whole comparison. FetLife is a social network for the kink community. BDSM Addicts is a dating site for it. Which one you want depends on what you are trying to do.
| What you are comparing | BDSM Addicts | FetLife |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A BDSM, kink and fetish dating site | A social network for the kink community |
| Built for | Meeting compatible partners: matching, search and one-to-one messaging with dating intent stated up front | Community life: profiles, writing, groups, discussion and event listings |
| Dating intent | Explicit. Everyone is here to meet someone | Mixed. Many members are there to socialise, read and take part in the community rather than to date |
| Finding people | Search and daily matches by role, interest and location | Browsing groups, events and connections; it is not organised around partner search |
| Cost to start | Free to join, search and browse | Free to join, with optional supporter features |
FetLife deserves its standing. It is the largest online gathering place the kink world has, and for community life it is genuinely good: discussion groups on almost every interest, member writing, photo sharing within the community, and listings for munches and events in many cities. If you want to learn, read, follow people whose experience you respect and find out what is happening locally, FetLife does that well.
Plenty of BDSM Addicts members use FetLife too, and there is no conflict in that. They are different tools.
FetLife describes itself as a social network, and it behaves like one. It is not organised around finding a partner. There is no matching, dating intent is not a profile default, and approaching members as if it were a dating site is a well-known way to get things wrong there. Many people you might message are not looking to meet anyone.
BDSM Addicts starts from the opposite premise. Everyone on the site has joined to meet someone. That single difference changes the whole experience:
If your goal is a dom, a sub, a switch or a fetish partner, a platform where every member shares that goal saves you the guesswork.
Choose FetLife if you want community: discussion, writing, events and a broad view of the kink world. It is the established home for that, and nothing here is meant to talk you out of it.
Choose BDSM Addicts if you want a partner. It is free to join, searching and browsing cost nothing, and every profile you see belongs to someone who joined for the same reason you did. Many people sensibly use both: one for community, one for dating.
